Semarang has many visit area for culinary lovers. One of them is Pasar Semawis. Pasar Semawis opens every Friday until Sunday, from 6 pm until night . Special to celebrate Imlek (Tionghua New Year) 2561 Pasar Semawis was opened from 10 until 14 February 2010.
To reach Semawis, the easiest way is via Simpang Lima. From Simpang Lima with motor vehicles through Jalan Gajah Mada and on Depok intersection (Bata Shoe shop), we can turn right and Semawis will be at the end of the street after the grant and colorful Chinatown gate.
Stands which sells any things (accessories, clothes, shoes, etc) occurred at Gang Pinggir. There are Tay Kak Sie Klenteng at Gang Lombok, at there many people come to pray, include request their soulmate :p
At the river which separate Gang Pinggir and Gang Tengah stand a Cheng Ho’s Ship replica. This ‘ship’ was used to stage for Djarum Super Pasar Semawis song’s contest. I watch Cahya (one of finalis Idola Cilik RCTI) sang last night.
For culinary stands we must walk to Gang Warung. At there many stands which sells various foods. From uniques foods from Semarang to the foods from other city. I ate Ikan Asin Fried Rice and Es Puter Cong Li last night. Unfortunely, last night was rain and tent provided were limit, so we couldn’t enjoy this dinner.
After dinner, we went outings to other stand which sells China Accessories, Konghucu’s prayer equipment and stand karaoke (gyahahaha I love it so much ^^). We walked the street until 9 pm n our feet sore :D
If u go to Semarang, don’t forget to stop by this place. And for Moslem’s there are many halal food. U can read their banner shop or u can ask them. For non Moslems, the Chinatown can be a culinary heaven because of the variety of food offered from Pork Satay until Pisang Plenet (Pisang Plenet is unique food from Semarang and it’s halal for Moslem :D and it usually sold before Sri Ratu and Gajahmada Street)
For the desert, visitors can enjoy various ice treats from “Es Marem”, “Es Puter Cong Lik” or the famous “es cao” on the corner of Gang Lo mbok.
